Ahrefs review

Ahrefs is the reference tool for backlink research, and its DR and UR metrics are the ones link sellers and marketplaces quote. Useful link features such as broken backlinks start at the Standard plan, and AI visibility through Brand Radar costs extra.

Best for

Link builders and agencies who vet publishers every day and need the metrics the rest of the market uses.

Not for

Occasional users, who will find the price and usage limits hard to justify.

What is not

  • Broken backlinks, outgoing links and linking authors start at the Standard plan
  • Lite plan is limited to 1,000 credits per user
  • The full Brand Radar product is priced separately; plans include only a few tracked AI prompts
  • Trustpilot 2.2 from 323 reviews as of October 2026

This review is based on Ahrefs’s public pages and third-party ratings, checked on 3 October 2026. The rating out of 10 is the editor’s own judgement. The focus is on link building and off-page features, not the full suite.

Site Explorer is the part of Ahrefs that link builders use most. Its public page states an index of 35 trillion live backlinks and 22.4 billion pages. Ahrefs says you can track backlink spikes in real time, filter out noise to find valuable links, and see a site’s most linked content.

The two Ahrefs metrics, Domain Rating and URL Rating, have become the common currency of the paid link market. Marketplaces show them in their catalogues, and Collaborator.pro has an official Ahrefs integration for that purpose. Services such as The HOTH and Loganix price their tiers by DR or DA.

That popularity has a cost. A metric that sets prices gets gamed, and DR can be inflated with redirects and link networks. Use the traffic and referring domain reports alongside it. Our guide on how to vet a publisher covers the checks.

Prospecting and monitoring

Ahrefs lists Link Intersect, which shows sites that link to competitors and not to you, and email alerts for new and lost links. The Standard plan adds broken backlinks, broken links, outgoing links, a calendar view and linking authors, which Ahrefs promotes as a way to find writers for outreach.

For monitoring, the lost backlinks report and alerts cover the monthly check on your whole profile. They do not replace a per-link tracker for placements you paid for. See how to track backlinks.

Ahrefs has no built-in outreach tool. Both BuzzStream and Pitchbox list an Ahrefs integration.

AI visibility

Brand Radar tracks how a brand appears in AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot. Ahrefs states a database of more than 449 million monthly prompts. The Lite, Standard and Advanced plans include 5, 10 and 20 tracked AI prompts. The full product is a separate purchase: the pricing page shows Brand Radar from EUR 179 a month, and custom prompt packages at EUR 46.70 a month for 2,500 checks, EUR 93 for 7,000 and EUR 234 for 25,000.

Pricing

Plan Price per month Notes
Lite EUR 119 100,000 crawl credits, 1,000 credits per user
Standard EUR 229 500,000 crawl credits, adds broken backlinks, outgoing links, linking authors
Advanced EUR 419 1,500,000 crawl credits
Enterprise EUR 1,394 Annual commitment required

Prices are as shown in euros on the Ahrefs pricing page on 3 October 2026. The page also lists a Starter plan at EUR 27 a month, which is not covered here. The credit limit on Lite matters for link work, because each report you open uses credits. If you vet many sites a day, price the Standard plan.

What public reviews say

Ahrefs holds a Trustpilot score of 2.2 from 323 reviews, checked in October 2026. Software scores on Trustpilot lean towards billing disputes and say little about data quality.

Bottom line

Ahrefs is the reference tool for backlink research, and its DR and UR metrics are the ones link sellers and marketplaces quote. Useful link features such as broken backlinks start at the Standard plan, and AI visibility through Brand Radar costs extra.
