SpyFu review

This review is based on SpyFu’s public pages and third-party ratings, checked on 4 October 2026. The rating out of 10 is the editor’s own judgement. The focus is on link building and off-page features, not the full suite.

Backlinks tool

SpyFu is best known for competitor research in paid search. Links are a small part of the product, and the backlinks tool works differently from a normal backlink checker.

You start with a competitor’s domain. SpyFu then lists backlinks that come from pages ranking in Google’s top 10 results, and says it removes duplicates and low-quality links. You can filter by link type, such as blogs or forums. The home page adds that you can find competitor backlinks by keyword. The idea is that a link from a page that ranks is a link Google already trusts.

That makes it a prospecting tool. It gives a short, filtered list of pages worth pitching, which suits link prospecting and link gap analysis. The page also refers to a backlinks outreach feature for contacting the sites, without describing the contact data in detail.

It is not a profile tool. Because it only shows links from ranking pages, it will not list every link to a site. The page describes no authority metric, no new and lost link report, and no alerts. The rest of the platform

SpyFu’s home page states that it indexes 7.2 trillion search results, 13.1 billion keywords and 152 million websites, across 38 countries. These are vendor figures, and they describe search results, not backlinks.

The core reports show the keywords a competitor ranks for and buys ads on, with more than 10 years of history. Other features include rank tracking, a site audit with AI fixes and AI brand monitoring. Some Trustpilot reviewers say the data is thinner outside the United States, so check your own market in the first 30 days.

SpyFu states a 30-day money-back guarantee for any reason, with no forms to fill out. It says there are no contracts and that you can cancel by email, live chat or phone.

SpyFu holds a Trustpilot score of 3.4 from 152 reviews, checked in October 2026. Of those, 54 percent are five-star and 11 percent one-star. Reviewers praise the paid search research and the price. Complaints cover unexpected charges, data accuracy and slow performance. Trustpilot shows that SpyFu replies to its negative reviews.
