Link building in Spain
Spanish is a large and fairly cheap link market. Established Spanish-language publishers quote a median of $655 for a sponsored article, while the average order on the Publisuites marketplace costs under €100. Most cheap inventory is niche sites, and paid content must be identifiable as such.
In short
- ESBO's September 2026 analysis put the median sponsored article in Spanish at $655 across 1,642 publishers, the largest non-English pool it named.
- Publisuites' study of more than 32,480 sponsored posts ordered in 2024, reported by Marketing4eCommerce, found an average price of €87.80 and 59.3% of posts under €100.
- In the same Publisuites study, 52.3% of available media were in Spain, 12.2% in Mexico and 6.5% in the US, so a Spanish-language site is not always a Spanish site.
- Article 20 of Spain's Law 34/2002 requires commercial communications made by electronic means to be clearly identifiable as such, along with the party they are made for.
- Royal Decree 958/2020 makes gambling operators responsible for the commercial communications of the affiliates they use.
Spain is a large, open and comparatively cheap link market. ESBO’s September 2026 analysis of direct quotes from 16,625 publishers put the median sponsored article in Spanish at $655, based on 1,642 publishers. That is the biggest non-English pool the study named, and the price sits below French and Dutch at $870 and German at $1,230.
One caution applies to every figure on this page. The data is by language, and Spanish-language sites are published across Latin America and the US as well as Spain. A cheap Spanish-language placement may have its readers in Mexico. For the cross-country picture, see international link building.
What links cost in Spanish
Two datasets describe two different tiers.
| What was measured | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Median sponsored article, Spanish-language publishers | $655 (1,642 publishers) | ESBO, September 2026 |
| Average sponsored post ordered on Publisuites | €87.80 | Publisuites study of 2024 orders, reported by Marketing4eCommerce in January 2025 |
| Share of Publisuites posts under €100 | 59.3% | Same study |
| Average advertiser spend per year on Publisuites | €1,670 | Same study |
ESBO only counted publishers with a Domain Rating above 30 and at least 2,000 organic visits a month, and it recorded what each one quotes for a full sponsored article. Publisuites reported what buyers on its own marketplace paid across more than 32,480 sponsored posts. Its figure covers whatever was ordered, with no authority or traffic floor that we could see, so it leans towards the cheap end.
So the answer to “what does a Spanish link cost” is: under €100 for the typical marketplace order, and several hundred dollars for an established publisher.
What the cheap tier looks like
The Publisuites study is the most detailed public description of how links are bought in Spanish. Its figures for 2024:
- 78% of the media used were niche or specialised sites, not general news.
- Sites the study labels “only for SEO” grew by 10%. The report describes them as sites with good authority but less traffic than niche sites.
- 51.6% of posts contained a single link, and 38.8% of links pointed to a homepage.
- The average article ordered through the platform’s writing service ran to 692 words, down from 900 the year before.
- 55.5% of clients were agencies and ecommerce businesses, and the rest independent professionals.
Read together, these describe a volume market: short articles on small niche sites, one link each, bought in bulk by agencies. The growth of “only for SEO” sites, which have authority scores but little traffic, is the part to worry about. BuzzStream’s 2026 analysis of roughly 257,000 guest post sellers worldwide rated 96.2% as low quality, and nothing in the Spanish data suggests this market is an exception. Run each site through the checks in how to vet a publisher before you order.
The study is published by the marketplace itself, so it describes one platform’s orders and not the whole country.
Spanish-language is not the same as Spain
In the Publisuites data, 52.3% of available media were based in Spain, 12.2% in Mexico and 6.5% in the United States. The remainder is spread across other countries.
A link from a Mexican site shows language relevance. It does not show that people in Spain refer to you. If you are trying to rank in Spain, filter by the country the traffic comes from, not by language or by the domain ending. The same applies in reverse if your target is Latin America.
Our research notes record that Spanish digital newspapers sell placements openly, though we found no dataset that measures it.
Disclosure and advertising rules
Two legal texts matter. We read both in the consolidated versions published in the official state gazette.
Law 34/2002 on information society services. Article 20 says commercial communications made by electronic means must be clearly identifiable as such, and the natural or legal person on whose behalf they are made must also be clearly identifiable. A paid article is a commercial communication, so the publisher needs to make that visible. The law does not prescribe a specific word.
Royal Decree 958/2020 on gambling advertising. This decree, dated 3 November 2020, governs commercial communications for gambling. Under article 37.2, operators must take the measures needed to make sure that the entities carrying their commercial communications comply with the decree. In other words, an operator answers for its affiliates. The consolidated text also records that several provisions, including article 23.1 on advertising through information society services, were annulled by Supreme Court rulings in April 2024. If you work in this sector, read the current text and take legal advice, since what remains in force has changed. This section is general information, not legal advice. The iGaming hub covers the sector more widely.
Neither text deals with search engines. Whether a paid link passes ranking credit is a matter for Google’s policy, covered in link attributes.
Where to buy and how
Publisuites is the Spanish marketplace with published data. Among international platforms, WhitePress lists Spanish among its 36 languages and Collaborator lists sites in 52 languages. The link marketplaces page explains how these platforms work and where their limits are, and the marketplace comparison sets them side by side.
A working method for Spain:
- Pick the tier first. Decide how much of the budget goes to established publishers near the $655 median and how much, if any, to marketplace orders under €100.
- Filter by traffic country, then by topic.
- Avoid sites that exist only to sell posts. Signs include no organic traffic, every article carrying a commercial link, and unrelated topics side by side.
- Vary the target. With 38.8% of marketplace links pointing at homepages, it is worth checking that your own orders point at the pages that need the help.
