iGaming link building (casino and sportsbook)

Online gambling is one of the most link-dependent markets in search. Fewer publishers accept it, the ones that do know what the links are worth, and the gap between a sustainable profile and a disposable one is wider than anywhere else.

In short

  • 41.5% of publishers accept gambling links, according to ESBO's September 2026 dataset of 16,625 publisher quotes.
  • Their median surcharge is only 24 percent. Only 16% of gambling-friendly publishers charge double or more. Most of the premium buyers pay is vendor margin.
  • Guest posts for gambling average $238 across all sellers but $1,109 on quality sites, per BuzzStream's 2026 data.
  • Decide first whether the site is a brand asset or a disposable one. That choice sets which tactics are acceptable.

Online gambling is reported as the top-spending industry on link building, though the original survey behind that claim is unclear. Paid search is closed or restricted in many countries, so organic rankings carry the business, and almost every site on page one is investing in off-page work.

What makes this market different

Fewer doors. In ESBO’s September 2026 dataset, 41.5% of publishers accept gambling. Adult content is accepted by 15.9%, CBD by 35.4% and crypto by 45.1%.

A smaller premium than you are told. The same data shows a median surcharge of 19 to 32 percent for restricted niches. Only 16% of gambling-friendly publishers charge double or more. When a vendor quotes two to five times the normal rate, most of the difference is margin. We have desk reviews of the PressWhizz marketplace, Motherlink’s publisher platform and the Kokko agency.

Regulation shapes the link market. Germany’s regulator has said unlicensed operators win organic traffic through link marketing after Google Ads closed to them. Brazil moved licensed operators to .bet.br domains from January 2025. India banned real-money gaming in August 2025.

Brand asset or disposable asset

This is the first decision, and it comes before any tactic.

Brand asset Disposable asset
Typical owner Licensed operator, established affiliate Short-term affiliate project
Time horizon Years Months
Acceptable risk R1 to R3 R3 to R5
Typical tactics Digital PR, sponsorships, vetted sponsored articles, partnerships Private networks, expired domains, parasite pages, volume packages
What a penalty costs The business One domain

A licensed sportsbook that borrows the methods of a disposable affiliate site is taking a risk it cannot price.

What works for a brand

  • Digital PR with data. Odds, sports data and betting trends give journalists something to report.
  • Sponsorships. Clubs, leagues and events link to their sponsors.
  • Vetted sponsored articles. Buy on sites with real traffic in your country and language, and check them outside the marketplace first.
  • Relevance over raw authority. Sports, entertainment and local news sites in the target country beat unrelated high-authority sites.

What the grey market does

In unregulated markets the common model is a private network feeding satellite sites and a money site. One agency source from June 2026 puts a built network site at four figures and a working network at around 50 sites with a lifespan of about three years. These figures come from a single vendor and should be read as indicative.

Since late August 2026 Google no longer applies manual actions for site reputation abuse to results shown to users in the European Economic Area, after pressure under the Digital Markets Act. Algorithmic handling remains. The effect on parasite pages in Europe is still unproven.

Anchors and pace

There is no published safe ratio. The workable method is to pull the anchor profiles of the five sites ranking for your main term in your country and stay inside their range.

The homepage carries brand terms. Category pages such as live casino, slots or a sport carry the commercial terms and need direct links. Bonus and review pages change too often to be good long-term targets, so support them with internal links from stronger pages.

Common mistakes

  • Paying a multiple of the normal price because a vendor says gambling always costs more.
  • Buying on sites that also link to every other restricted niche.
  • Building links in English for a market that searches in another language.
  • Treating a licensed brand like a disposable site.

Common questions

How much does a casino backlink cost?

Productised casino links sell for about $99 to $270. On sites that pass a quality check, BuzzStream's 2026 data puts the average gambling guest post at $1,109.

Do publishers charge more for gambling links?

Some do, but less than the market assumes. In ESBO's 2026 dataset the median surcharge for gambling was 24 percent, and only 16 percent of publishers that accept gambling charged twice their normal price or more.

Are private blog networks still used in iGaming?

Yes, mostly in unregulated markets and for affiliate sites treated as disposable. For a licensed brand the risk of a manual action usually outweighs the saving.
