Disavow file generator

Paste domains or URLs in any format and get a clean, deduplicated disavow file that Google Search Console accepts. It runs in your browser.

You can paste an export from a backlink tool or an existing disavow file. Comments and duplicates are handled.

How to write each entry

How to use it

  1. Paste the domains or URLs you want Google to ignore. Any mix of formats works.
  2. Keep "Whole domains" selected unless you have a reason to disavow single pages.
  3. Download the file and upload it in Google's disavow links tool for the right property.

When a disavow file is the right step

Google's help page says to use the tool when you have a manual action for unnatural links, or when you have a large number of spammy or paid links and expect one. For most sites Google ignores low quality links without any action from you. Our lesson on how to disavow backlinks covers the decision, and toxic backlinks explains which links are worth worrying about.

If you already have a manual action, the file is one part of the reply. The steps are in how to write a reconsideration request.

What the generator does

  • Removes the protocol, "www" and, in domain mode, the path.
  • Removes duplicates and sorts the list.
  • Keeps a domain entry and drops URL entries on the same domain, since the domain entry already covers them.
  • Lists every line it could not read, so you can fix it.

Common questions

What format does a disavow file need?

A plain text file ending in .txt, encoded in UTF-8 or 7-bit ASCII, with one entry per line. A whole domain is written as domain:example.com and a single page as its full URL. Lines that start with # are comments. Google limits the file to 100,000 lines and 2 MB.

Should I disavow domains or single URLs?

Use the domain form in most cases. Spam links tend to appear on many pages of the same site, and a URL entry covers only that one page.

Does a new disavow file replace the old one?

Yes. Each upload replaces the previous list for that property. Paste your existing file into the box together with the new entries so nothing is dropped.

Is my list sent anywhere?

No. The file is built in your browser and nothing you paste leaves your device.
