This review is based on BrightLocal’s public pages and third-party ratings, checked on 4 October 2026. The rating out of 10 is the editor’s own judgement. The focus is on citations and off-page local SEO, not the full platform.

Citation Builder

Citation Builder is a service, not software. BrightLocal’s page describes three steps: its staff audit your current listings, submit your business details by hand to the directories you choose, then send a report with the logins. It says the first submissions are made within 7 days and standard delivery takes 7 to 14 days, with a 24-hour express option.

The page states that more than 1,000 directories are available across 20 countries, including the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia. It is clear about ownership: “you own every citation, with full login access to every account.” There are no recurring fees for manual submissions. The page does not set out a guarantee.

The model is simple: pay once, own the listing. Our local citations page explains what citations do and what they cost. They sit at 1 out of 5 on our risk scale, because they are plain business listings and not paid editorial links.

Data aggregators

BrightLocal also sells submissions to data aggregator networks, which pass your details on to many smaller directories. These cost $30 each or $120 a year for all five. Unlike manual citations, this part is an annual fee.

The software platform

The platform has three plans, each priced per location. Track covers rank tracking and visibility, including the Local Search Grid and a Local AI Visibility Tracker. Manage adds listings management and the Citation Tracker audit. Grow adds review tools through Reputation Manager. Reviews are an off-page signal in their own right, as our lesson on reviews as an off-page signal explains.

What public reviews say

BrightLocal’s Trustpilot page shows a score of 4.0 from 771 reviews, checked in October 2026. Reviewers praise helpful support staff. Some report slow responses and reports that take much longer to run than before. BrightLocal’s own site shows G2 at 4.6 from 228 reviews and Capterra at 4.8 from 281 reviews. It also shows a higher Trustpilot figure than the one we read on Trustpilot itself.
