Link building packages: what is in them and whether they are worth it
A link building package is a fixed number of links for a fixed price, usually defined by authority score. Public prices in October 2026 ran from about $60 a link to $20,000 a month. A package is worth it only if you can see and approve the sites.
In short
- Four vendors' public package pages, read in October 2026, work out at about $300 to $385 per link for managed packages, with per-link menus starting from $60.
- Packages are usually specified by authority score, yet BuzzStream's August 2026 study found that a site's traffic predicts its price better than its DR does.
- BuzzStream's June 2026 data puts the average publisher fee for a guest post at $295 direct, which shows how much of a package price is the placement itself.
- Some packages state that links carry no sponsored tag, which means the product is an unlabelled paid link under Google's link spam policy.
- A package without the right to approve each site in advance leaves you unable to judge what you bought.
A link building package is a fixed number of links for a fixed price, sold per order or per month and usually defined by an authority score such as DR. On the public pricing pages we read in October 2026, prices ran from about $60 for a single link to $19,999 a month for 53 or more, and managed packages worked out at about $300 to $385 per link.
A package is worth buying if you can see and approve the sites and the per-link price is fair for those sites. It is not worth buying on the strength of a DR number alone.
The three kinds of package
| Kind | How it is sold | What defines it |
|---|---|---|
| Per-link menu | You order single links from a price list | Link type and an authority tier |
| Fixed bundle | A set number of links for one payment | Volume discount |
| Monthly package | A set number of links each month, often with a minimum term | Link quota plus planning and reporting |
Digital PR is sold differently, by campaign, because nobody can promise how many journalists will link. Our tactic page on digital PR covers that pricing.
What public pricing pages show
These are examples of each kind, taken from the vendors’ own pages in October 2026 and listed alphabetically. They are not recommendations and we have not tested the services.
| Vendor | Kind | Public price | What the page states |
|---|---|---|---|
| Editorial.Link | Bundle | $375 for one link, 5 for $1,750, 20 for $6,000 | Average DR 50 to 90, sites with at least 5,000 traffic, site pre-approval |
| LinkBuilder.io | Monthly | $2,999 for 8 links, $5,999 for 16 or more, $9,999 for 26 or more, $19,999 for 53 or more | Average DR 50 to 90, six-month commitment with a 90-day opt-out |
| Rhino Rank | Per-link menu | Curated links from $60, guest posts from $75 | 12-month replacement cover |
| Stellar SEO | Monthly | $2,500 for 8 links, $5,000 for 16 | Most links at DR 30 or more, sites with at least 1,000 monthly visits in Ahrefs, followed links with no sponsored tag |
Divide price by links and the managed packages land close together. Stellar SEO’s work out at about $313 per link. LinkBuilder.io’s stay between about $375 and $385 from the smallest package to the largest, so volume brings no discount there. Editorial.Link’s fall from $375 to $300.
UK prices follow the same shape. Whito’s research into UK link building costs, checked in September 2026, found entry packages at £2,995 to £3,500 a month for 5 to 10 placements and top packages at £13,995 for 60 or more.
What is in a package and what is missing
Most packages state the number of links, a minimum or average authority score, the content and a report. Better ones add a traffic minimum, site approval and a replacement period.
What is usually missing matters more:
- The site list. Many packages do not show the sites before you pay.
- The method. Outreach to real publishers and buying from a seller list are different products at the same DR. Seller lists and recycled inventory explains the difference.
- The cost split. You rarely learn how much of the price reaches the publisher.
- Relevance. A score says nothing about whether the site covers your subject or your country.
Why a DR tier is a weak specification
DR is Ahrefs’ estimate of the strength of a site’s link profile. It is not a Google metric, and it can be raised with redirects and link networks. Our lesson on authority metrics explains what it measures.
Three findings show the gap between score and substance. BuzzStream’s June 2026 study found that 39.6% of about 257,000 sites selling guest posts had no organic traffic. Its August 2026 study of link insertions found that traffic predicts price better than DR does: the average list price at DR 30 to 39 was $246, higher than the $197 at DR 40 to 49. And in uSERP’s September 2026 survey of 116 senior SEOs, only 11.2% named DR or DA as their main test of a link, against 58.6% who named topical relevance.
Read the wording too. “Average DR 50 to 90” is an average, so some links will sit below 50. A traffic minimum is a stronger promise than a score, and a named site list is stronger than both.
The policy point most pages leave out
One of the pages above states that its links are followed and carry no sponsored tag. That is the commercial point of most packages, and it is also what Google’s link spam policy prohibits: a paid link that passes ranking credit without a sponsored or nofollow attribute.
The vendor carries none of that risk. You do. Decide who in your business accepts it before you sign a six-month term.
Are they worth it?
Start with what the placements themselves cost. BuzzStream’s June 2026 data puts a guest post at $295 on average bought direct from the site, and $461 through a vendor, a markup of about 56%. Its August 2026 data puts a niche edit at $179 on average.
Set a package at $300 to $385 per link against those figures. If the sites are real publications with traffic, reached by outreach, the price covers the publisher’s fee, the writing and the labour, and it is fair. A 2026 analysis by Vazoola, cited by BlueTree, reported that building 30 links a month in-house costs $400 to $700 per link fully loaded. If the sites come from a marketplace at $60 each, most of what you pay is margin.
As a rule of thumb from practitioners, a budget under about $1,500 a month buys marketplace inventory with a markup whatever the page says. At that level you may do better ordering directly and vetting the sites yourself.
A package makes sense when you have no outreach capacity, the vendor shows its sites and you can check the output. It makes little sense when you cannot audit what arrives. What link building costs helps you set the budget first.
Six questions before you buy
- Can I see and approve every site before the link is placed?
- How is each site sourced: outreach, a marketplace or a site you control?
- What are the traffic and relevance minimums, not only the DR?
- What attribute will the links carry, and will the articles be labelled?
- How long is a lost link replaced for?
- What is the minimum term and how do I leave?
A vendor that answers all six in writing is worth a trial order. Very low prices are a separate subject, covered in cheap backlinks.

Common questions
How much do link building packages cost?
Public prices read in October 2026 ranged from $60 for a single curated link to $19,999 a month for 53 or more links. The managed monthly packages we read worked out at about $300 to $385 per link.
What is included in a link building package?
Usually a set number of links, a minimum authority score, the article or the edit, and a report. Some add a traffic minimum, site approval, anchor planning or a replacement period. Few state how the sites are sourced.
Are monthly link building packages worth it?
They can be if you lack outreach capacity and the vendor lets you approve every site. They are poor value when the package only promises an authority score, because that number is easy to inflate.
Why are packages priced by DR?
Because one number is easy to sell and easy to compare. It is a tool's estimate of link strength, not a Google metric, and it says nothing about traffic or relevance.
Is a bigger package cheaper per link?
Sometimes. One vendor's public prices fell from $375 for a single link to $300 each for 20. Another's stayed at roughly $375 to $385 per link from 8 links a month to 53.
